BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR, PLANT (BFN) APPENDIX R AUDIT READINESS.
Reference:
R. Gridley's letter to NRC dated March 10; 1989 Docket No. 50-260 This letter is to report on the status of the preparations for the Appendix R
Audit.
In the referenced letter, BFN committed to be ready for the audit by April 10, 1989,and five criteria were presented as measures for readiness.
The status of each criteria is as follows.
- 100 percent design complete currently, five design packages remain to be completed.
Three are new packages and invol.ve.minor modifications that have recently been identified.
Two are dependent'on walkdowns which are in progress.
All of these activities are similar to other packages that have been completed.
- 80 to 85 percent of modifications field complete currently, modifications are 73 percent complete.
- All reactor building sprinkler heads in place except on elevations 565'nd 593' this commitment has been met.
- Penetration seals:
representative sample in place this commitment has been met.
" Communications to support manual operator actions as stated in the February 22, 1989, meeting, communications will be available to support manual operator actions;
- however, redundancy of the communication system wi 11 be available at a later date; therefore, this commitment has been met.
These items were discussed with Gerry Gears and Rex Wescott of the NRC staff on April 12, 1989.
