50-259 50-260 50-296 BRONNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT EXEMPTION FROM CRITICALITY MONITORING REQUIREMENTS Pursuant to Title 10, Code, of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 70.24 (d),
TVA requests an exemption from the requirements of 10 CFR 70.24 for the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant units 1, 2, and 3.
This exemption was originally granted in Special Nuclear Material (SNM) licenses SNM-1268, SNM-1434, and SNM-1511 which were terminated upon receipt of operating licenses DPR-33, DPR-52, and DPR-68.
The exemption, shown in the enclosed copies of a portion of the SNM
- licenses, should have been incorporated into the operating licenses, but was inadvertently omitted apparently due to administrative error.
TVA requests the exemption be granted since conditions under which the exemption existed in the SNM licenses, i.e.,
the new fuel storage facilities are designed to preclude accidental criticality for fuel out of storage and all other SNM (e.g., fission chambers),
are of such small quantities that accidental criticality is precluded.
Enclosed is a check for the
$150'pproval fee required by 10 CFR 170.12.
