Dear Mr. Grier:
This serves to confirm information provided to NRC Inspector R. Gallo on March 23, 1979 and relates to a deficiency potentially reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
The deficiency concerns solenoid valves (Circle Seal Model J-69B) with defective diodes which were purchased by Bechtel from Circle Seal Corporation and weze shipped to the SSES site.
The solenoid valves are used in process valve control systems and have subseauently been removed from their installed locations and aze currently in the jobsite warehouse awaiting return to the vendor.
Bechtel Management Corrective Action Report, MCAR 1-31, was issued to:
(1} initiate an engineering evaluation of solenoid valves supplied by the same vendor (other than those identified above);
and (2) assure that the defective solenoid valves and the process valves from which they were removed were identified and controlled in accordance with Field Inspection Procedure G-3, Processing of Nonconforming Ztems.
Since the details of this report provide information relevant to the reporting rapxirements of 10CFR Part 21> t1ws cor espondence is considered to also discharge any formal responsibilities PP&L may have for reporting in compliance thereto.
