50-387 and 50-388 Non-Class IE Loads on Class IE power System ER 100450 File 841-2 PLA-703
Dear Mr. Youngblood:
Pennsylvania Power and Light Co.
has reviewed the NRC's concerns relative to the electrical isolation designs for circuits 85, 86, 89 and 103 in table 8.1-2 of the FSAR.
We agree to accept one of the three suggested options to resolve isolation for circuits 85 and 86, PP8L is evaluating circuits 89 and 103 to determine if they should be reclassified as class 1E. If not feasible, PP8L will apply one of the three options to provide acceptable isolation.
These options are as follows:
1)
The addition of another circuit breaker fully coordinated with the existing breaker and periodically tested for verification.
2) the use of a safety injection actuation signal to automatically 'trip the load.
3) the use of a shunt trip device, for the breaker such that this trip would not be subject to the direct thermal and magnetic effects of any large magnitude (e.g.,
short circuit) fault current.
