<o, SUSQUEHfQUA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION CLARIFICATION TO RESPONSE ON CONTAINMENT ISOLATION ER 100450 FILE 841-12 PLA-715

Dear iver. Youngblood:

The purpose of this letter is to amend our response to NUREG 0737 item II.E.4.2 (containment isolation dependability).

Part 4,of this requirement states that no containment isolation valves should automatically open upon isolation signal reset.

The response was sent by a letter from N. W. Curtis on March 16, 1981 (PLA-659).

This response states that all except a few valves do not auto-matically open on isolation signal reset.

Justification is provided for those valves that do open.

We have completed an audit which has identified additional valves that open on isolation signal reset.

We have initiated a design change to prevent the automatic opening of these valves.

The first paragraph of the response to part 4 of item II.E.4.2 should be modified as follows:

(4)

All containment isolation valves, except those listed below, will not automatically open on logic reset.

Some valves other than those listed below require corrective action to comply with this requirement.

All such actions will be completed prior to fuel load.

An overide of any isolation signal will not cause automatic opening of any isolation valve.

Very truly yours,

/7 Cd. ~v~~/
