RESPONSE
TO GENERIC LETTER 84-23 REACTOR VESSEL WATER LEVEL INSTRUMENTATION IN BWR'S BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT Hi h Dr ell Tem erature TVA is continuing to evaluate the cost, and feasibility of reducing the vertical drops of the reference legs inside the drywell to one to two feet by bringing the reference legs outside the drywell at a higher elevation using existing penetrations.
This evaluation is not yet completed.
TVA is also participating in the BWROG activity on water level instrumentation.
We will consider any potential solutions presented but, at this time, minimizing the reference leg vertical drops inside the drywell is our preferred alternative.
We will submit an updated response by March 15, 1986.
