Docket No. 50-259 This letter is to document the results of meetings with your staff held on February 4 and 6, 1985 in your Bethesda, Maryland offices.
In the meetings the plans and schedule for inspection and modification of stainless steel piping in Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant unit 1 were discussed.
By various letters and in meetings with your staff, we had stated our plans to replace stainless steel piping in Browns Ferry unit 1 during the cycle 6
refueling outage currently scheduled to start in June 1985.
In the meetings with your staff held on February 4 and 6,
- 1985, we stated our intentions to defer this piping replacement until the cycle 7 refueling out;age.
This deferral of pipe replacement will result in two cycles of unit 1 operation with the overlays.
Our plans are consistent with the requirements and guidance of NRC Generic Letter 84-07 dated March 14, 1984, subject;,
Procedural Guidance for Pipe Replacement at BWR's.
By an Order forwarded to TVA by D. B. Vassallo's December 19, 1983 letter to H. G. Parris, TVA is required to submit the plans for inspections, corrective action, and/or modifications of piping systems in unit 1 at least one month before start of the next refueling outage.
Those plans will reflect deferral of the piping replacement until the cycle 7 outage.
As committed to in TVA's meeting with your staff on February 6,
- 1985, we will submit those plans earlier than required by the Orders.
