Dear Mr. Parris:

SUBJECT:

EMERGENCY RESPONSE CAPABILITY -

CONFORMANCE TO R.G. 1.97, REV. fg Re:

Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 1, 2, and 3

We have reviewed your submittal of April 30, 1984 on the above subject.

The enclosed interim report was prepared by EG&G Idaho under a technical assistance program.

The report concludes that for some items, the justification you provided for deviation or exception to the specific requirements of R.G. 1.97 is acceptable.

However, for some other items, for which you proposed an alternative course of action, we concluded that there was insufficient infor-mation and inadequate justification to support your position.

You are requested to review the enclosed report.

For those items that were not acceptable, you are requested to provide the additional information discussed in the report and summarized in the conclusions.

A response within 60 days would be appreciated.

The request for additional information is specific to one licensee.

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.

Enclosure:

As stated Sincerely, Original signed by/
