A broken terminal was'found on shutdown board D battery, cell no.

The terminal was almost entirely broken which would have made the battery inoperable. if it had broken completely.

Action specified in the Technical Specification Surveillance Requirements met due to ino erable e ui ment.

Resident NRC inspector was notified at 1500 hours0.0174 days <br />0.417 hours <br />0.00248 weeks <br />5.7075e-4 months <br /> 4/19/79 in accordance with 3.9.B.4.

Probably due to incorrect torquing of the battery terminal.

Analysis of Occurrence:

The lead battery terminal. of cell No.

30 was cracked almost o the point

was using only one wrench to t'ghten the terminal causing stress to be applied.

Corrective Action

The cells involved were replaced.

Personnel was instructed as to proper methods for torquing the terminals.
