BFN-27 12.1-1 12.0 STRUCTURES AND SHIELDING 12.1

SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION The principal structures include the reactor, turbine, radwaste, diesel generator, office and service, off gas treatment, and the standby gas treatment buildings, and the equipment access lock, guardhouse (gatehouse), chimney (stack), intake water pumping station, and an Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) Pad.

Where required, design consideration has been given to wind loads at 100 mph, tornado loads at 300 mph, operating basis earthquake with 0.1g maximum ground acceleration, and design basis earthquake with 0.2g maximum ground acceleration.

Live loads, dead loads, and impact and reaction loads have been accounted for, as well as pipe and equipment loads, thermal loads, and the effects of earth, hydrostatic, and ground water pressure. Where appropriate, jet loads and other forces resulting from ruptured piping and the effects of possible missiles have been included.
