Dear Mr. Denton:

re: Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant, New Hill, NC I have come to the conclusion that generation of electricity by nuclear power plants such as CP&L's Shearon Harris plant is unnecessarily costly and hazardous-The benefits are outweighed by the considerable cost and potential for long-term pollution of air, ground and water, with attendant loss of life and health.

I am no longer willing to accept these trade-offs and I feel that more acceptable solutions can and should be found.

I am writing to urge you to do whatever you can to prevent the Shearon Harris plant from going on line (as a nuclear facility),

and to encourage exploration of less expensive and less hazardous alternatives.

Stopping or converting the Shearon Harris plant to non-nuclear energy is of the utmost importance.

Thank you for the opportunity to make my feelings

known, I hope that you will take some action on this matter.

Sincerely, I

Richard C. Ferguson 86'9QP9
