Dear Mr. Denton,
The threat of nuclear war hangs over all of us.
The danger of living on the same planet with nuclear power plants like Cherno-byl is obvious.
- However, these seem remote in compar ison to the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, just 17 miles from my home.
I understand that you are in a position to insist that there be a
full scale exercise of the emergency evacuation plan for Shearon Harris.
I cannot imagine that after the cover up of all the deaths and other 'health problems at Three Mile Island, and after the Chernobyl disaster, you expect us to believe the assurances that THIS nuclear power plant is safe.
I consider that the LEAST you can do is oblige CPLL to give us the benefit of a complete evacuation drill.
When I went to
- school, we had fire drills.
I always thought they were boring until one day, after we had calmly walked outside, we watched the school burn to the ground.
Is there not a greater statistical possibility for a nuclear accident than for a school to burn down?
Regardless, I always have been thankful for drills, and want to insist that we have one here.
The drills at school were never announced,- either.
That' why it worked so well when the r eal thing happened.

%u,'o~'f course, I want to live next to a power plant that needs no evacuation drills And further, I detest the thought of the poss-ibility that someone' carelessness, either in the construction or the operation of the plant, or through some defect in the equipment, or a combination of these, may force me, my family, my fr iends and neighbors to flee our homes, perhaps never to return, if we escape death.
Good
- God, how can you excuse the use oF such deadliness?
And what are we going to do with all the waste?
Isn't it clear to you yet that there is no place to put it where it will not, plague us and our descendants?
Personally, I am ready to die at any moment.
But I do not want to take responsibility for putting so many other people' lives in danger, which is exactly what you have been called upon to do.
Thank you for your great efforts for our safety
~
DO NORE!
Sincerely
- yours, f/'
