Shearon Harris Nuclear Facility, New Hill, NC
Dear Mr. Denton:
I would appreciate your reviewing the emergency evacuation plan for this facility and taking the following action:
- l. Expanding the evacuation planning radius to 25 miles.
- 2. Requiring that Carolina Power
& Light submit a new evacuation plan, taking this radius into account.
The existing 10-mile radius around the plant is insufficient and unrealistic, considering the prevailing winds in the area as well as the rapid growth rate of the Wake-Durham-Orange County area.
The Raleigh News
& Observer of June 1,
1986 devoted a front page story to the area's traffic problems and how it wo'uld affect economic growth.
These same problems which will obviously affect any evacuation planhave not been adaquately addressed by Carolina Power
& Light in their existing plan.
