QUARTERLY DATA REPORT SHNPP SEISMIC MONITORING PROGRAM OCTOBER 1, 1984 - DECEMBER 31, 1984 Carolina Power 6 Light Company has completed another quarter of operation of its seismic monitoring program at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant site near New Hill, North Carolina.

During this period a total of 1 45 cultural events were recorded with a S-P of less than 5 seconds.

No local earthquakes were detected.

Of these 1 45 events, 123 were confirmed as being explosions by the responsible companies or agencies.

The remaining 22 events displayed the signature and arrival pattern of previously identified cultural events and all of them occurred during the daylight hours.

Only one of these events was recorded on a weekend or holiday:

2. 7 Probable Source Airport Runway Construction The signature and arrival pattern of this event are identical to 15 other events recorded during this quarter that were confirmed as being explosions from the construction activity for the new runway at the Raleigh-Durham airport, approximately 25 kilometers northeast of the Shearon Harris plant site.

Of these 15 confirmed explosions, 1 also occurred on a Saturday.
