. The applicant should be advised that although an analysis of chlorine usage as a biocide at the facility has been carefully evaluated from several aspects, particularly with regard to total trihalomethane (TTHM) formation in the receiving waters there is a possibility that TTHM formation.could occur in the receiving waters.

In turn, this could create adverse tx'eatment effects on down stream water treatment facilities. It is suggested that from time to time the applicant analyze ~ater samples from selected sites in the receiving waters and a distance down stxeam to determine the extent of TTHM formation.

If TTHMs are found, the water users on the Cape Fear River should be notified.

The application should also be advised that if the biocide use is changed from chlorine to another type of biocide that the Biocide Interagency Task Force be contacted, to determine whether or not the proposed new biocide would have an adverse affect on the environment.
