This letter is in r'eference to Generic Letter 83-28 concerning "Required Actions Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events." In response to Section 4 .5.3 of the generic letter, the BWR Owners'roup was provided with NEDC-30844 ("BWR Owners'roup Response to NRC Generic Letter 83-28, Item 4 .5.3 ") on a generic basis to participating utilities. As a result of a meeting between NMPC and NRC personnel, Niagara Mohawk has been requested to provide the NRC with additional information:

l. Ooes NEOC-30844 apply to the NMP2 design?
2. Are there any differences between the design of the NMP2 RPS and the preference plant RPS utilized in this .analysis? If so, explain the differences.
3. Is the NMP2 RPS design considered to be solid state or relay?

Niagara Mohawk requests that you provide a response to these questions by April 15, 1986.

Loomis (NHP2 SUBJECT Licensing) and R. Seifreid (NHPC Training) Concerning Generic Letter 83-28 On December 18, 1985, 'I contacted Hr. R. Seifreid concerning Generic Letter 83-28.. In our response to Section 1.1.3, we stated that "the qualifications and training for the positions of Station Superintendent, Operations Superintendent and Unit Reactor Analyst Supervisor comply with the requirements of ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978 and 10 CFR 55." Additionally, in our response to Section 1.1.5, we stated that "the individuals responsible for the event analysis are qualified per ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978." This statement refers to Section 1.1.2 which cites the Station Superintendent, Operations Superintehdent and Station Shift Supervisor as the personnel that perform the post-trip review analysis.

Hr. Seifreid reviewed the FSAR, 10CFR55 and ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978 and stated to me that the individuals and positions discussed and referenced in Sections 1.1.3 and 1.1.5 comply with ANSI/ANS 3.1-1978 and 10CFR55.

Hooten (NMPC) concerning the "Response to Generic Letter 83-28, Required Action Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events".

Licensing requests that you review the attached letter which provides review criteria for Item 1.2, "Post Trip Review: Data and Information Capabilities". Additionally, please take note that NMPC has been requested to respond by December 17, 1985. (60 days from the date of the letter).

Accordingly, Licensing will need a draft of the final letter two weeks prior to this date (December 3, 1985). Mr . T. Loomis, of my staff, will coordinate with you on meeting this date.
