SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF SEPTEMBER 26 AND 27, 1983 MEETING HELD WITH CAROLINA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY TO DISCUSS FIRE PROTECTION On September 26 and 27, 1983, representatives from Carolina Power and Light (CP8L) and Ebasco met with members of the Chemical Engineering and Auxiliary Systems Branches.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the fire protec-tion open items.
Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees at the two days of meet-ings
~
The first day's activities dealt mainly with the issues covered in the Chemical Engineering Branch (ChEB) review areas.
Twelve of the twenty-one open items were closed at the meeting.
Two issues required clarification and no additional remaining ten issues were closed pending CPImL's formal response to question 280.1 or an amendment to the final safety analysis report.
A detailed listing of the items discussed during the September 26, 1983 portion of the meeting are given in Enclosure 2.
The day concluded with a meticulous review of the fire protection drawings and a discussion on possible exemption request.
On September 27, 1983, the remaining fire protection drawings were reviewed and the Auxiliary Systems Branch (ASB) discussed the Safety Shutdown Analysis (SSA).
The ASB review items are listed in Enclosure 2 and the ASB concerns on the SSA are given in Enclosure 3.
In addition, CP&L explained how to use the SSA in conjunction with the FSAR and several complimentary documentations.
ASB felt that the SSA review for Shearon Harris would require more time than normal because of the cross referencing of documents.
Additionally, ASB noted that the concerns discussed at the meeting were not an inclusive list and more concerns could result from their detailed review of the SSA.
