SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 25, 1983 WITH CAROLINA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY TO DISCUSS FIRE PROTECTION SCHEDULE On August 25, 1983, representatives from Carolina Power and Light Company (CP8L) and Ebasco met with members of Chemical Engineering and Auxiliary Systems Branches.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the fire protection program and safe shutdown analysis for the Shearon Harris Units.
The list of attendees is enclosed.
I Members from the Chemical Engineering Branch (CHEB) stated that additional information is required to demonstrate how CPLL would comply with Appendix R, 10 CFR Part 50.
- Also, CHEB requested that an overview of how CPSL meets the fire protection procedures requirements be provided and not the procedures themselves.
With regard to the safe shutdown analysis, the staff requested that the methodology used to justify the analysis be submitted.
CP&L stated that they will meet Appendix R by us,ing 1 of the 3 seperation criteria outside containment and having 3 barriers inside containment.
If they could not meet the appropriate criteria, CPSL would provide an exception request.
The staff asked that the methodology for the exception justification also be provided.
Finally, a clarification of the safety shutdown information already submitted was given by the applicant

The meeting ended with the parties agreeing to meet tentatively the last week of September 1983.
This would allow CP&L sufficient time to provide the information requested and permit the staff time to evaluate the submittal.
