DOCKET NUMBER 50-400/401 APPLICANT CAROLINA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY FACILITY SHARON HARRIS NUCLEAR STATION'n July 20-21, 1983 the safeguards reviewer met with representatives of the Carolina Power and Light Company pur suant to NUREG'0800 Standard Review Plan initial site visit at the Sharon Harris Nuclear Station.

The meetings and site tour were closed to the public and ha'd the following attendees:

Gaskin, NRC/NMSS/SG All meetings were held at the site.

The reviewer toured the entire site including the proposed protected and'ital areas and the Unit 1/2 interface barrier.

The previous review comments and the proposed revision to the physical security plan were discussed The reviewer reminded the CP8L r epresentatives of the necessity to weigh security measures against safety requirements to assure that secure.ity measures do not interfere with safety related emergencies.

The identification of vital equipment and the location of vital areas were discussed The recommendations Nf the safety/safeguards review committee were pointed out by the reviewer.

The schedule for the review was also discussed.

Action:

CP&L will submitt a proposed revision to their previous physical security plan submitted responsive to the review comments and items raised during the site visit.

NRC anticipates completing their review by the end of September.
