SUMMARY

ON SHEARON HARRIS CLASS 1 PIPING DESIGN DOCUMENTATION On July 28, 1983, the staff and its consultants f."om the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) met with representatives from Carolina Power 5 Light and Westinghouse at the Westinghouse offices in Monroeville, PA.

The purpose of the meeting was to conduct an audit of the ASME Class 1

piping design specifications and design reports for the Shearon Harris facility.

The staff selected the reactor coolant loop piping for the design report audit.

For Shearon Harris, the analyses of Class 1 piping (reactor coolant loop and attached branch lines) are within the scope of Westinghouse.

However, the analysis of the Class 1 attached piping was not complete at this time and, therefore, was not available for audit.

The analysis of the reactor coolant loop was only partially complete.

Westinghouse provided a sample Class 1 reactor coolant loop analysis (for a foreign plant) for our review.

In our audit of the design specifications and design report, the staff raised several questions regarding the piping ovality requirements (out-of-roundness),

pressure design checks, welded joint preparation, overthickness of fittings, flanged joints, and RCL branch nozzle calculations.

The staff will develop specific questions for transmittal to the applicant for resolution.

The acceptability of the Shearon Harris design documents will be addressed in our SER input.
