SUBJECT:

Summary of Meeting Regarding Review of gA Program A meeting was held with the applicant on July 15 and 16, 1982 in the applicant's office in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the sta'ff questions resulting from our review of the gA program presented in the Shearon'ar ris FSAR.

(The questions were transmitted to the applicant by letter, dated May 7, 1982.)

The meeting attendees are listed *in Enclosure l.

The meeting is sumarized as follows.

~Samovar The applicant briefly discusse'd its gA organization.

The gA functions at CP8L are performed by various groups.

Previously, these groups were in different departments of the company.

Within the last year, CPSL has reorganized so that all of th'e gA-rel'ated activities are now under one corporate gA office.

In preparation for the meeting, the applicant had drafted proposed responses to the May 7 staff questions on the gA program in the FSAR.

During the meeting, we reviewed the draft responses a'nd indicated where additional information would be required to make the responses more complete.

The applicant recently filed jbnendment No.

3 to the FSAR which included revisions to Section 1.8 where conformance to Regulatory Guides is dis-cussed.

At the meeting, we r'eviewed the revised discussion on Regulatory Guides 1.33, 1.58 and 1.123 ('ealing with the gA program) and indicated where clarification should be'rovided or w'here additional justification is required for some of the exceptions taken.

The applicant stated that it will revise the draft responses to the gA questions as a result of our c'omments and submit the responses as part of the next Amendment (Ho. 4)" to the FSAR.

The applicant will also in-clude in that amendment, revi'sions to Secti'o'n 1.8 to address the comments we provided at the meeting on the gA-rel'ated Regulatory Guides.

The applicant projects that the next amendment will be filed by the end of August 1982.

We stated that"the projected date will not impact the date for gAB input into the draft'SER.

At the conclusion, both the applicant and the staff found the meeting to be productive.
