Dear Governor Hunt:
The following resolution was passed at the precinct meeting of Durham County Precinct g2 at the meeting held on March 11, 1982.
It was agreed by all who attended that a copy'f this resolution would be sent to you for your consideration and your action:
WHEREAS nuclear power plants contain significant amounts of dangerous radioactive material, and WHEREAS the public need protection from this danger, and WHEREAS Carolina Power 6'ight Company is building the Harris nuclear plant within thirty miles of all of Durham, BE IT RESOLVED that there should be comprehensive, independent radiation monitoring of the Harris nuclear plant site and the area within thirty miles of it, including plant and wildlife, before the Harris nuclear plant starts up; that comprehensive,'ontinuous, independent radiation monitoring be conducted as long as the Harris plant is licensed to operate; and that Carolina Power and Light, the owner of the plant, should pay to the state, or other appropriate governmental
- entities, the cost and expense of this independent radiation monitoring, at appropriate sites within thirty miles of the location of the Harris nuclear plant.
