CHAPKL HIL Lo N>> C. 475'l4 18 A RESOLUTION passed by the Orange County Democratic Party County Convention April 25, 1981 OPPOSITION TO NUCLEAR POWER WHEREAS a nuclear power plant threatens the public health and safety of any community, and WHEREAS a nuclear power plant produces radioactive waste materials for which no safe disposal exists, and WHEREAS a nuclear power plant poses an unnecessary burden on the customers of an electric utility company, and WHEREAS conservation and other sources of energy are available as alternatives to nuclear power, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Democratic Party opposes the construction of the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant and supports conversion of the nuclear power plants now under construction to other, non-nuclear, power generation.
