PIA'0 TO SURVEY 'ORTIONS 'OF 'SUS UEHAWA LE(.TRI S'I TION, P
BEIWEEN THE NSOLIDATED BAIL RP.,TRA KS AN THE SU UEHANNA RI y Harry G. Scheele This plan is presented in conjunction with a cost estimate for the project.
It is based on acreage figures presented on "Riverlands Recreation
- Plan, Figure 3.1-5".
I assume the acreage figures exclude Gould Island.
Part I should be a literature search (historic and prehistoric).
Special attention should concern the North Branch Canal.
I think two people can do that in five days for $ 520 (salaries only).
Part II should be a field search for historic and prehistoric sites.
This work should be divided into 'two segments.
One group (including a principal investigator and two other people) should systematically walk over the project areas'20 acres.
Any lands obscured by vegetation should be shovel tested to levels sterile of cultural material.
This work should take six work days and it should cost
$1104 (salaries only).
Another group (including a back-hoe
- operator, a geomorphologist, and an archeologist) should use a back-hoe to deep-test at 100 meter intervals along the river.
I estimate 38 trenches, each 2-3 meters long could be done in a week.
This work should cost about
$ 3420.
This figure depends to a great extent on local back-hoe costs, however.
Part III consists of analyzing the results of Parts I and II, and preparing a report.
kbking certain assumptions, like 600 miles travel and mileage at 18< a mile and a 10: fee, the total is
$15,731.10.
That figure does not include any IAS-A administrative costs.
If any sites are discovered, they would have to be tested and evaluated at some future. date.
