Dear Nuclear Regulatory Commission,
I am writing on behalf of my local community in North Carolina in regards to the proposal by Shearon Harris to increase it's capacity of high level nuclear wastes, publication date of January 13, 1999, page number 2240. This nuclear power plant is located within 25 miles from the Research Triangle Park, including the major cities of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary. Shearon Harris is proposing to continue accepting spent rods from its two other more remote power plants and bring them to the more densely populated area near Shearon Harris. This is an area that is currently under growing a rapid growth and it would be 'a great mistake to allow this to happen"in an area where the consequences of any leaks could be so catastrophic.

Although, Shearon Harris claims this to be only a short term storage sight, eventually sending the rods to Yucca Mountain in 2010 for long term storage, Yucca Mountain is not yet finalized for long term storage. The expansion of Shearon Harris would make it the largest nuclear storage sight of "short term storage" in the country and within minuets from major cities. Geologically the area has been shown to be a very poor site for any long term storage as the rocks are very permeable and the majority of the water in the area currently comes from ground water.
We are asking that consideration of population over cost effectiveness of CPS'e taken into account when deciding on this issue.
