However, we willnot be able to meet as a body to discuss his report until February 15, which is after the NRC's filingdeadline, The Chatham County Board ofCommissioners has regularly scheduled meetings on the first and third Monday of each month. The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is on February 15. Under our rules ofpublic notification, we must provide public notice, and prepare agendas and documentation in advance ofmeetings; therefore, the meeting date is extremely difficultto change.

During a meeting held by the NC DivisionofRadiation Protection (DRP) with CP8'cL on January 25 to discuss the amendment application, both the DRP and CP&L encouraged our staff to apply for an extension and indicated that the NRC would likely grant it.

In summary, we have proceeded responsibly and with haste to evaluate the Shearon Harris license amendment application. 'We consider that a responsible evaluation of the proposed license amendment is critical to our responsibility for the health and welfare of the citizens of Chatham County.

Nevertheless, because of public notification requirements that we are unable to alter, we willnot be able to conduct a proper evaluation ofthe license amendment until after the deadline has passed for filingNo Significant Hazards comments and requesting a hearing.

Therefore, we request an extension of30 days for submitting these filings.
