SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT 1 - REQUEST FOR VALVEDATA RE: GENERIC SAFETY ISSUE (GSI 165)
Dear Mr. Robinson:
The NRC Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) is currently in the process of resolving Generic Safety Issue (GSI) 165, "Spring-Actuated Safety and Relief Valve Reliability." GSI 165 addresses whether failures of spring-actuated relief valves in safety-related support systems have the potential to cause substantial increases in plant core damage frequency (CDF), and what, ifany, generic action may be appropriate.
To resolve this issue RES is using available probabilistic risk assessments to study the effects of these valve failures on the CDF for generic plant types.
In order to complete its analyses, RES has determined additional valve data for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant is needed.
This request relates to the configuration and design of certain valves as they currently exist. The Enclosure provides the details of the requested information.
The staff requests a response to the enclosed questions within 60 days of receipt of this letter.
Ifthis is not achievable, CP8L should notify the staff and propose a date for submittal of a response.
