The inspection was an examination of the activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) rules and regulations and the conditions of your license. The inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, Interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector. The inspection findings are as follows:

10 CFR 20. 1906(b)(2) requires, in part, each licensee to monitor the external surfaces of a labeled package for radiation levels unless the package contains quantities of radioactive material that are less than or equal to the Type A quantity as defined in 7 and appendix A to Part 71 of this chapte Contrary to the above, on Sept 8 & Oct. 17, 2017, Electric Boat did not monitor the external surfaces of a labeled packaged for radiation levels. Specifically, packages received on the above dates that had DOT Yellow II labels and contained radiography sources of lr-192, with greater than Type A quantities, were not monitored for radiation levels. (Severity Level IV - Section 6.7)

Corrective Actions - The licensee re-trained the supervisor, who was responsible for ensuring that the incoming packages were monitored, on the re1rnlatorv requirement and on the licensee's procedure Statement of Corrective Actions I hereby state that, within 30 days, the actions described by me to the Inspector will be taken to correct the violations identified. This statement of corrective actions is made In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 2.201 (corrective steps already taken, corrective steps which will be taken, date when full compliance will be achieved).
