NPF-63 EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SYSTEM EUALUATION MODEL CHANGES Gentlemen:

The purpose of this letter is to submit information required pursuant to 10 CFR 50.46(a)(3)(ii) for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) regarding the estimated effect of changes or errors in Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) evaluation models or in the application of the models. This submittal fulfills the requirements for a 30-day report.

Westinghouse analyzed the SBLOCA event for the cycle 6 reload using the NOTRUMP Evaluation Model previously reviewed and approved by the NRC. The analysis indicated that the most limiting PCT resulting from a SBLOCA would be 2011 'F (Reference CP&L's annual report dated June 9, 1994, NLS-94-046).

Westinghouse has informed CP&L of several model errors which result in a net reduction in margin to the PCT acceptance criteria. The new PCT for HNP is 2199 'F. The calculated performance of the SHNPP ECCS continues to meet the performance acceptance criteria specified in 10 CFR 50.46(b)(1), i.e., the calculated maximum PCT is less than 2200'F.

The enclosure to this letter provides a Margin Utilization Table for the SBLOCA analyses of record in a format consistent with past reports.
