NPF-63 RESPONSE TO NRC GENERIC LETTER 89-10: COMPLETION OF MOTOR OPERATED VALVETEST PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION Gentlemen:
On June 28, 1989, the NRC issued Generic Letter No. 89-10, "Safety-Related Motor-Operated Valve (MOV) Testing and Surveillance Program."
The Generic Letter recommended that licensees'rograms with respect to MOVs should provide for testing, inspection and maintenance of MOVs so as to provide the necessary assurance that they will function as required when subjected to the design basis conditions that are considered during both normal operation and abnormal events within the design basis of the plant.
The purpose of this letter is to notify the NRC that the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant has completed implementing an MOVprogram (items a through h in the Generic Letter) in accordance with the commitments provided in Carolina Power &Light Company response letters dated December 27, 1990 and June 6, 1991, CP&L will continue to ensure proper MOV performance and design configuration control at SHNPP utilizing NRC guidance, data obtained from completed MOV testing, and additional MOV-related industry operating experience.
