Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-400/LICENSE NO. NPF-63 TDI DIESEL ENGINE INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS Gentlemen:
On September 16,
- 1991, we notified the NRC that Carolina Power
& Light Company (CP&L) was not in full compliance with the TDI diesel engine inspection requirements of the Facility Operating License for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP).
As reported to the NRC, the connecting rod link pin, link pin bushing, and piston pin bore diameter measurements recommended by the TDI Owners Group were not recorded during the one-time five-year inspection completed on the "A" diesel engine during the last refueling outage.
- However, these components were visually inspected with satisfactory results.
It was subsequently determined that these measurements are not required to be completed until the next refueling outage, currently scheduled for September 1992 'herefore, on September 17,
- 1991, the initial NRC notification was retracted.
The current TDI Owners Group Maintenance and Surveillance matrix will require these measurements to be taken on the "A" diesel engine during the next:
refueling outage, as well as the complete, one-time five-year inspection for the "B" diesel engine.
Prior to the next outage, CP&L may pursue modifying these maintenance and surveillance requirements as allowed by the Operating License; otherwise, these measurements will be made as specified by the TDI Owners Group.
