RESPONSE
TO NRC REQJALIFICATION EA'AMINATION REPORT 50-400/91-300 Gentlemen:
In your letter of August 12, 1991 transmitting the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant (SHNPP) Requalification Examination Report 50-400/91-300, a
concern was identified with the simulator portion of the operating examinations.
During the simulator examinations, the operators manually initiated safety injection before assuring the reactor was shutdown.
Your letter invited CP&L to respond within 30 days of receipt of the letter as to corrective actions for this condition.
Carolina Power
& Light Company will revise the applicable SHNPP procedures to require operators to ensure the reactor is shutdown prior to manually initiating safety injection.
These procedure revisions and required training for licensed operators will be completed by December 31, 1991.
Please refer any questions regarding this submittal to Mr. Lewis S. Rowell at (919) 546-2770.
