UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 March 30, 1987 MEMORANDUM FOR:
Bi,llie Cha SECY FROM:
Steve Kent CA
SUBJECT:
CRC-87-0211 We are returning the attached February 20, 1987 incoming letter from Congressman H. Martin Lancaster re the possible use of counterfeit bolts at the Shearon Harris nuclear plant in North Carolina for return to EDO for response.
The Lancaster letter was originally assigned to EDO then reassigned to OCA on the grounds that the same response that had been used for a recent Mrazek letter could also be used for Lancaster.
After reviewing the two, we do not believe that the Mrazek response can be used for Congressman Lancaster.
First, although both letters refer to Jack Anderson columns on counterfeit bolts, it appears they relate to different Anderson columns.
- Second, Congressman Lancaster specifically asks for assurance that counterfeit bolts have not been and will not be used at Shearon Harris.
Only EDO can give that assurance or provide an explanation as to why it can'.
