Dear Dr. Denton,

I am writing about the Carolina Power

."and Light nuclear power plant Shearon Harris which is twenty-two miKes from where I live. I understand that CFOUL wants to limit its evacuation zone to two miles andXwanhs to urge you not to allow this change.

In fact, I want you to consider expanding the zone to 20 or 25 miles.

Over 250,000 people live within 20 miles of this plant; there are three cities and countless towns.

Any evacuation plan that is at all realistic has to take the whole area into account.

I also understand that CPBL is appealing to your office to have the practice for the evaauation plan@ waived.

The type of practice normally used (weekend day, volun-tary cooperation by the population) is limited enough in its ability to predict how things would be in an emergency.

To allow them to not even do this would be a violation of your duty to protect the public by means of regulations of the'.

industry.

Please deny their requests and hold them to a standard of public trust and accountability.

Make them put public safety ahead of corporate expediency.

Thank you, Ron Shehee SbOb270382 Bb0b24 PDR ADOGK 05000400 H
