Dear Dr. Denton:
We understand that Carolina Power 6 Zight is requesting from you
'an exemption from a full scale emergency plan test before the opening the Bhearon Harris Nuclear plant in North Carolina.
We urge you not to grant that request.
We Further urge you to require participation by a ma)ority of the people in the emergency zone in order to determine the adequacy of this evacuation plan.
We further request that the NRC expand the emergency radius to 50 miles. It is our understanding that your are considering reducing that radius to 2 miles.
Considering what we all know about nuclear fall out even us laymen
.- we don't understand how that could be
)ustified.
Do you feel it is your obligation to protect the profits of utility companies, or the well-being of the people who are paying for these "NUCZEAR WASTE-PRODUCING PZANTS" through their utilitybills' We would expect it to be. the responosibility of the NRC to deal as stringently as possible with the company that has the disastrous safety record that CPGZ has with the NRC.
Please let us know what the NRC is doing in regard to these matters.
