Turkey Point Plant, Units 3 5 4 - 'Fire protection (Safe Shutdown Capability Your letter dated July 1, 1982, provided information to demonstrate by a combination of compliance and exemptions from the specific provisions of Appendix R, the objective of assuring safe shutdown capability in the event of a fire will be met for Turkey Point Units 3 and 4.
The subnittal proposed no modifications which constitute alternative oF dedi'cated shut-down capability.
Therefore, until staff action is completed relating to your exemption requests, no further actions by the staff will be taken relating to alternative or dedicated'hutdown capability.
We.will initiate our review of alternative or dedicated.
shutdown capability if the exemptdbh requests are denied and upon receipt of your proposals for this capabi>lity.
He have enclosed a Technical Evaluation Report (TER) from our consultants, Brookhaven National Laboratory, vihich sutmnarizes the result of our review-to date.. The TER identifies the. safe shutdown methods and'quipment to be used. at Turkey Point Units 3 and 4 in the event of a fire.
The TER also identifies areas of. concern where we believe your proposed safe shutdown methods or equipment in the evept of a fire deviate from Appendix R, Sections III.G.3 and III.L.
This TER is being provided for your information; In addition< the TER identifies potential problem areas which exist if your exemption requests are denied and alternative or dedicated shutdown capability is required."
