Dear Dr. Uhrig:

SUBJECT:

LONG-TERM REVIEW CONTAINMENT PURGE Al'tD VENT VALVES On August 31, 1981, we issued the staff's Safety Evaluation for containment purging and venting during normal operation of'urkey Point,Plant, Units 3 and 4.

lte indicated that the Safety Evaluation was subject to additional assurance, such as debris screens, that the isolation valves will close.

Your sutmittal dated November 17, 1982, provides a commitment to install Pbbris screens on the purge supply and exhaust valves Adring the next refueling outage for each unit.

He have concluded, that'-'this commitment beets the staff's requirements to be in conformance to the Standard Revie~ Plan Section 6.2.4 Revision 1

and Branch Technical Position CSB 6-4 Revision l.

An>acceptable alter-native to installing the debris screens would, be to maintain the purge valves sealed-closed during Operating Modes 1 through 2.

The referenced Safety Evaluation provides the details of our revie.'or this portion of the vent and purge issue.

Sincerely,.
