REFERENCE:
TAC Numbers 60365 and 60366 By letter dated November 26, 1985, you requested clarification of Generic Letter 85-15, Information Relating to the Deadlines for Compliance With 10 CFR 50.49, "Environmental gualification of Electrical Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants."
On September 22, 1986, the staff issued Generic Letter 86-15, Information Relating to Compliance with 10 CFR 50.49, "Environmental gualification of Electrical Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants," which is enclosed.
The purpose of the Generic Letter is to provide additional guidelines on appropriate licensee actions in situations where environmental qualification of equipment is suspect.
The enclosure to the letter provides guidance in regard to the enforcement of 10 CFR 50.49.
I would like to note that the guidance provided for the actions to be taken has been approved by the Commission and the guidance relating to the enforcement aspects of 10 CFR 50.49 reflects the current Commission policy.
I trust you find this responsive to your concerns.
This completes our action related to the above TAC numbers.
