ENCLOSURE TURKEY POINT STATUS REPORT (March 16 - April 1, 1988) 1.

Plant Status Unit 3 was in mode 1.

Unit 4 was in mode 1.

2.

Facilit 0 erations Summar Both units were operating at 100% power.

On March 16,

1988, Unit 3 shut down due to noise coming from the "3D" Moisture Separator Reheater (MSR).

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the MSR's baffle plates (all HSRs) had cracked welds.

The licensee ~

conducted repairs and returned the unit to service on March 23, 1988.

On March 24,

1988, the unit was shut down due to high chlorides in the condenser and steam generators.

The licensee repaired a condenser tube leak and returned the unit to service on March 30, 1988.

Items of Interest The independent management appraisal is nearing completion.

The final report is due April 18, 1988.

M. Ernst, the Deputy Regional Administrator, attended the senior evaluation team meeting with the FPL senior-level review board on March 23, 1988.

4.

NRC Staff Activities Durin the Period A working level meeting at Turkey Point with the licensee was held Harch 29 - April 1, 1988, to discuss the Revised Technical Specifications (TS).

The Electrical and Boration TSs were reviewed.

NRR informed the licensee that the Proof and Review copy will be issued June 10, 1988.

An Enforcement Conference on Emergency Preparedness issues is scheduled for April 21,

1988, at the Turkey Point site.

The next Management Meeting is scheduled for April 22, 1988, at the site.
