OF MEETING HELD WITH FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY APRIL 29,

1986, REGARDING DECAY HEAT REMOVAL CAPABILITY STUDY (USI A-45)

~kd Members'of the NRC staff met with the Florida Power and Light (FPL) representatives at Bethesda, Maryland, to discuss the Decay Heat Removal (DHR) Capability Study (USI A-45) being'erformed by the NRC staff with the assistance of our contractor, Sandia National Laboratory (SNL).

The primary objectives of the USI A-45 program are to evaluate the safety adequacy of DHR systems in existing light water reactors and assess the value/impact of alternative measures for improving the overall reliability of the DHR function.

Several nuclear power plants, including Turkey Point, were included in the generic study.

~Summar Details were discussed relating to the methodology and results of the generic study which is still ongoing.

The list of attendees is attached.

FPL representatives indicated, that bleed and feed was not included in the base case nor in the calculated alternatives.

It also appears that neither the standby steam generator feed pumps nor the five black start diesel generators were included in the study.

FPL is reviewing the draft study and will provide detailed comments.

The NRC staff indicated that we would consider their comments prior to the issuance of the generic study.
