Dear Mr. Vassallo:
In the Matter of the
)
Tennessee Valley Authority
)
Docket Nos. 50-259 50-260 50-296 Your letter to H.. G. Parris dated March 8, 1982 requested that TVA provide additional information regarding our response to NUREG-0737 item II.B.1.
Specifically, we were requested to compare Browns Ferry design features for venting the reactor coolant system (RCS) with the BWR generic venting capability described in the BWR Owners'roup position in this letter.
We were also asked to identify any other.systems which could be affected by the collection of noncondensible gases.
Our responses are as follows.
The ma)or design feature for venting the RCS identified by the BWR Owners'roup position is the main steam relief valves (MSRVs).
MSRVs and their interface with the RCS are a ma)or BWR design feature which varies little among different product lines.
Accordingly, the generic venting capability as discussed, in the BWR Owners'roup position is applicable to.Browns Ferry.
t Regarding other systems being affected by noncondensibles, we have not identified any systems at Browns Ferry which would be adversely affected..
The Browns Ferry design does not include an.isolation condenser or a steam condensing mode of RHR.
Very truly yours,
'(
