I am writing in response to your letter of April12, 1979 to Chairman Hendrie requesting consideration of a constituent's telegram in support of Mark P.

Oncavage's petition for leave to intervene in the NRC license amendment proceeding involving repair of the steam generators at the Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station.

Mr. Oncavage filed his intitialpetition on February 9, 1979 and submitted a revision thereto on March 29.. The NRC Staff filed a written response to the initial and revised petitions on March 1

and April 6, respectively.

A copy of these responses are enclosed for your information.

The presiding NRC Atomic Safety and Licensing Board has scheduled a

prehearing conference for May 2, 1979 at the Howard Johnson Downtowner, 200 Southeast Avenue, Miami, Florida to consider the petition. At or shortly following this prehearing conference, the Board willrule on whether to grant or deny the petition. If the Licensing Board denies the petition, Mr. Oncavage may immediately appeal to the Atomic Safety and Licensing Appeal Board. If the Licensing Board grants the petition, other parties have the same rights of appeal.
