Dear Mr. Ring,
Upcoming modifications to the Cook Nuclear Plant Control Rooms necessitate a change in our Requalification Program curriculum in order to prepare our Licensed, Operators for a successful restart of Unit 1 following these refueling outage modifications.
In order to accomplish the necessary training related to these modifications, we propose to move the operational examination portion of the annual requalification examination to a period following start-up of Unit 1.
The written examination, including static and in-plant JPMs, will remain as previously scheduled during January/February, 1994.
The modifications mentioned above include replacing all Control Room Foxboro Controllers with Taylor Model 30 Controllers, which provide the same or similar controller functions and indications.
- Further, the facility plans to initiate a Control Room redesign modification which will alter the Control Room arrangement and orientation.
The controller modification has been installed in our site specific simulator, and the Control Room redesign will be implemented in the latter part of October, 1993.
These modifications will be implemented in Unit 1 during the next scheduled refueling outage (February - end of April, 1994).
Movement of the operational examination will provide more simulator contact time prior to Unit 1 start-up.
This, in conjunction with our change in curriculum, will better prepare our operating staff for the start-up of Unit 1 and the administration of the annual operating examination.
