Dear Ms. Rettig:
This is in response to your letter concerning replacement of steam generators at the D.C.
Cook nuclear power plant.
The steam generators are not being stored uncovered.
They are being stored onsite in a shielded building with sufficient shielding to limit the dose rate to less than 1.0 mi llirem per hour at the outside of the building.
This building is approximately 1500 feet from the nearest site boundary.
Further details are provided in the enclosed copy of the NRC staff's Environmental Assessment on repair of the steam generators.
Section 5.1.6 deals with the radiation doses from onsite storage of steam generator assemblies.
In a related matter, Indiana Michigan Power Company, operator of D.C. Cook, sought our approval for onsite disposal of certain concrete to be removed from the steam generator doghouse enclosures.
A copy of that application (dated February 29, 1988) and of our environmental assessment and approval (dated August 30, 1988) is enclosed.
Copies of the above documents, and other information about D.C. Cook, are available for inspection at the NRC Local Public Document
