Dear Mr. Denton:

This letter responds to Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut's letter of February 23, 1980 on the subject of LWR primary coolant system pressure isolation valves. We have reviewed the systems that use check valves to perform a pressure isolation function within the Class 1 boundary of the high pressure piping connecting the RCS piping to low pressure piping that could potentially allow a LOCA to bypass the containment and found that neither of the valve configurations described in Mr. Eisenhut's letter exist at Cook Plant. The following are the valve configurations used at Cook Plant:

1) A minimum of three check valves in series.
2) Two check valves with'a minimum of a closed motor operated valve'n series.
3) Two check valves with a closed hand operated valve in series.
4) A check valve with two closed air operated valves in series.

Very truly yours, Joan. E; Dolan,,
