Keppler, Regional Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 Operating License DPR-74 Docket No. 50-316

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This is to confirm our verbal report to NRC Region IIX Inspector, Mr. R. E. Masse, at 1535 hours0.0178 days
0.426 hours
0.00254 weeks
5.840675e-4 months
on February 19, 1980.

At that time we reported that after a manual trip on Unit 2 the power operated relief valves were open for a short period of time causing an unplanned release of Sodium 24 (Na-24) steam. Calculations performed by members of our plant Technical Department showed the concentration of Na-24 to be less than 1% of the limits identified in 10CFR20, Appendix B, Table 2, Column l.

A followup report will be submitted by February 29, 1980, as required by Appendix B, Technical Specification Section 5.4.2.1.

Sincerely, D. V. Shaller Plant Manager
