Mr. A. Bert Davis This special report is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.7.10 Action (a) to inform you that a fire seal penetration was inoperable in excess of 7 days.
On April 6,
- 1987, a fire seal penetration between the Auxiliary Feed W~'ter Pump Room corridor and the Unit 1 Turbine Driven Auxiliary Feed Water Pump Room was found to be inoperable.
The requirements of Technical Specification 3.7.10 Action (a) were met in that a roving fire watch patrol was established within one hour.
- However, due to the fact that this is a non standard penetration
- type, an engineering evaluation had to be performed to determine how to repair the seal.
The engineering evaluation was received on April 16, 1987, with a temporary penetration seal being installed the same day and the penetration being declared operable.
A permanent penetration seal will be installed by July 16, 1987.
A Safety Evaluation was performed on this event to determine the impact of a fire on either side of the deficient fire seal.
The Safety Evaluation concluded that there was no significant degradation of safety as a fire starting in either fire zone would not, spread to the other fire zone.
