Dear Mr. Adamkus:

RE:

Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. 0005827 Steam Generator Blowdown Anticipating a return to service after a maintenance

outage, the Number 23 steam generators on the Unit 2 nuclear steam supply system was drained.

A grab sample of the effluent taken on August 17, 1985 had a pH of 10.58.

The elevated pH is likely due to the addition of ammonia during the out-age to prevent steam generator degradation.

Very truly yours,

~~ c'.
