Dear Mr. Zugger:

RE: Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. MI 0005827 Boiler Blowdown pH The heating boiler which had been last used on February 26, 1985 was started on July 16, 1985. A sample taken on August 4, 1985 from the blowdown prior to mixing with cooling water, had a pH of 5.56. The high pH for the day was 9.57. The average of three pH samples during the day was 7.87.

The low pH value was likely the result of inadequate pH control.

Very truly yours, C'.
