Dear Mr. Dolan:
By letter dated December 21, '1984,, Indiana and Michigan Electric Company (IMEC) provided a response to Generic Letter 83-28, Item 4.3, Reactor Trip System Reliabi] ity'Automatic Actuation os the Shunt Trip Attachment for W plants). 'ncluded.was a response to plant specific questions identified Tn the NRC evaluation of the Generic Westinghouse design which was submitted by the Westinghouse Owner's'Group on June 14, 1983.
Enclosed is our safety evaluation report (SER) which addresses the IMEC response to Item 4.3 of Generic Letter 83-28.
We find that the design modifications are acceptable.

/s/SAVarga When the results of the WOG qualification program are completed, IMEC is requested to provide 'confirmation to the NRC that the shunt trip is seismically qualified.
Following the implementation of the shunt trip modifications, the IMEC should submit proposed technical specifications which are responsive to the staff requirements noted in the enclosed SER.
